G9 Math Lab

Your child learns the Grade 9 units from Korean textbooks first, then works through the same units with English problems from US and UK textbooks and IB courses.

Units cover quadratic equations and quadratic functions, trigonometric ratios, and basic statistics. Your child also writes out the reasoning behind each solution in sentences.

What your child learns in Grade 9

Once your child can solve school math on their own, they move on to AMC 10 problems and problems from IGCSE sample papers.

What international courses teach at the same stage as Korean Grade 9

Korean G9

  • Quadratic equations and quadratic functions
  • Trigonometric ratios
  • Basic statistics

International courses, G9

  • US Algebra 2 and Geometry
  • UK GCSE Higher Tier
  • Quadratic functions, geometry, and statistics in IB MYP

Functions unit: quadratic functions and what comes next

If your child learned linear functions in grades 7–8, they move on to quadratic functions and their graphs in Grade 9.

The functions unit, step by step

  1. Learn from the textbook what a quadratic function's equation and graph mean
  2. Read quadratic function problems using the English function terms from grades 7–8
  3. In high school, go on to function notation, graph transformations, and exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functionsf(x) · Domain/Range · Graph Transformation

Solve independently, then redo mistakes

In each unit, your child checks the concept with basic problem types, then works through applied problems and advanced problems.

What your child practices in Grade 9

  • Learning concepts and English terms

For each unit, your child keeps a separate list of English terms for quadratic equations, quadratic functions, and trigonometric ratios.

  • Redoing problems they got wrong

Your child finds whether the mistake was in the concept or in the steps, fixes their notes, and solves the problem again alone.

  • Solving English word problems

Your child breaks long English problems and graph problems into step-by-step questions and turns them into equations.

Justify each step, then write proofs

Your child practices writing solutions in sentences, in the answer format their school tests require.

Writing out reasoning, step by step

  1. Find the answerANSWER
  2. Write why they used that methodREASON
  3. Write the reason behind each stepJUSTIFY
  4. On proof problems, prove each step with reasonsPROVE

Quizzes and end-of-month assessments track your child's progress

There's a quiz every class and an assessment at the end of each month. The results decide the next unit and which units your child redoes. See how parents get progress updates

Plan your child's G9 Math Lab classes

Tell us which math course your child takes at school, where their school class is, and what they're preparing for, such as AMC 10 or IGCSE. From there, we'll decide together which unit to start with.
