Book Club: Overview
Your child reads English books, then talks and writes about them in English.
From reading picture books in Pre-K and kindergarten to critiquing fiction and nonfiction in Grade 7 and up, your child reads books that match their reading level.
Books and activities at each level

- Early (Pre-K–K)
- Children listen to picture books and storybooks and learn their phrases through songs, games, and role-play.
- Developing (G1–3)
- Students read easy chapter books on their own from start to finish, then talk or write about how the book made them feel.
- Independent (G4–6)
- Students read more complex English books and use evidence from the book to write and debate their opinions.
- Critical (G7 and up)
- Students read English fiction and nonfiction, weigh the author's intent and context, and write English essays.
Your child's starting level depends more on how well they read than on their age or grade.
